Henry Pohl MD, CPE Board Member
Dr. Henry Pohl is a graduate of the University of Health Sciences, Chicago Medical School. He did his internship and residency at Albany Medical Center Hospital in Internal Medicine. He completed a fellowship in Gastroenterology at the Lahey Clinic, Boston, MA. He is Vice Dean for Academic Administration at Albany Medical College.
In his administrative academic role at Albany Medical College, he oversees all of the educational programs representing the continuum of medical education as well as the Basic Science PhD and Masters programs including the Clinical Masters in Nurse Anesthesiology and Physician Assistants. He planned and managed the new comprehensive care curriculum initiated in 1993 at the medical college. He is the Chair of the Sosa Academy of Medical Sciences and Chairman of the Department of Medical Education.
He is the past national chair of the American Association of Medical Colleges’ Group on Educational Affairs. He was the principal investigator of a Josiah Macy grant that established standardized patient programs at the medical schools in Albany, Buffalo and Syracuse. He chaired the Standardized Patient Committee of the National Board of Medical Examiners charged with developing a clinical skills examination for licensure from 1989 – 2004. He chaired the Test Material Development Committee, USMLE 2CS 2006-2009. He is immediate past President and a member of the Executive Committee of the Coalition for Physician Enhancement, a membership organization of programs that assess and remediates practicing physicians.
He is Past President of the Board of Directors of the Hudson Mohawk Area Health Education and the Director of the Eastern Regional office of the State AHEC system. He served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education from 2006-2011.
